Role and Responsibilities:

  • The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of engineers to design, develop, and deliver high-quality product and solutions.
  • This role includes managing engineering projects, optimizing processes, and ensuring the technical quality of work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, ensuring effective performance management and professional development.
    • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and results-driven engineering culture.
    • Identify skill gaps and implement training and development programs.
    • Participate in recruiting efforts to hire top engineering talent.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects within scope, budget, and timeline.
    • Manage project risks, technical challenges, and resource allocation.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project goals, deliverables, and performance metrics.
    • Review and calculate labor, material and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.
    • Analyze production processes, schedules, methods and other data and then provide management with reports containing the data and statistics to enable management to better understand future requirements needed for the manufacturing process.
    • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
    • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that manufacturer's procedures and instructions are followed in order to keep production equipment operational.
  • Process Optimization:
    • Analyze existing engineering processes and workflows, identifying areas for improvement.
    • Implement best practices, such as Six Sigma, PDCA, Risk assessment, or Agile methodologies, to drive efficiency and productivity.
    • Monitor process performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize operations.
  • Product Design and Development:
    • Oversee the design, testing, and validation of new products or systems.
    • Ensure the technical feasibility of designs and compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    •  Collaborate with R&D, product management, and other teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage the department’s budget, including project costs, staffing, and equipment investments.
    • Allocate resources effectively to meet project demands while maintaining cost control.
    • Track capital expenditures and ensure ROI (Return on Investment) on engineering projects and improvements.
  • Technical Guidance and Decision-Making:
    • Provide technical leadership and expertise to resolve complex engineering issues.
    • Evaluate and approve engineering designs, specifications, and technical reports.
    • Make strategic decisions regarding technology selection, process enhancements, and design solutions.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure that engineering practices and processes comply with regulatory standards, quality management systems, and industry certifications (ISO, CE, FDA, etc.).
    • Ensure that the company's manufacturing processes are in compliance with all government laws and regulations.
    • Work closely with quality assurance teams to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    • Ensure safety protocols and environmental regulations are followed in all engineering projects.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    •  Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other departments, including operations, marketing, and sales.
    • Communicate project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior management and key stakeholders.
    • Work closely with supply chain, procurement, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
    •  Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing engineering processes, reducing costs, and improving product quality (DMAIC, Kaizens, RCA, PDCA, FMAE, DFME, etc.)
    • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation.
    • Ensure the onboarding of new engineers and promote a smooth transition into the team


Qualifications:

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, or Manufacturing) required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience required
  • 5+ years' engineering experience in large plant environment preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma a plus
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, product development, and quality control principals, and familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement (Lean Six Sigma, RCA, FMAE, etc.).
  • Oversee team of Mechanical, Environmental, Electrical engineering staff as well as support staff for the department.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering projects and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Able to lead root cause analysis investigations.
  • Proficient in engineering software (Minitab, CAD, CAE, project management tools, SAT, etc.). and MS Office
  • Able to explain training material to our operating staff
  • Aptitude for equipment operation and troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication skills, and problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Must pass a pre employment drug screen and physical
