This role is critical in ensuring the functionality, safety, and energy efficiency of lighting installations across commercial, industrial, and sometimes residential settings. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and customer service to support clients in diverse environments, often working under tight deadlines or in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Setup:
- Install new lighting systems, including fixtures, LED drivers, ballasts, and controls, following blueprints, schematics, or client specifications.
- This includes mounting fixtures, wiring connections, and integrating dimming or smart lighting technologies.
Maintenance and Inspections:
- Perform routine maintenance checks to ensure lighting systems operate efficiently, identifying wear, corrosion, or electrical issues.
- This involves testing voltage, troubleshooting circuits, and replacing faulty components.
Repair and Emergency Services:
- Respond to service calls for lighting failures, conducting diagnostics to pinpoint problems (e.g., burned-out bulbs, faulty wiring, or driver malfunctions).
- Provide 24/7 emergency repairs, ensuring minimal downtime, with a target turnaround time (e.g., 72 hours) for critical issues.
LED Conversions and Upgrades:
- Execute retrofits from traditional lighting (e.g., fluorescent, incandescent) to energy-efficient LED systems, including driver replacements and system recalibrations to optimize performance and reduce energy costs.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all installations and repairs comply with local electrical codes, safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, NEC), and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct risk assessments and use personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe working environment.
Customer Interaction:
- Communicate with clients to assess needs, explain technical issues, and provide recommendations for lighting solutions.
- Offer training or guidance on system operation and maintenance as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of service calls, repairs, and installations, including parts used, labor hours, and compliance documentation.
- Submit reports to supervisors or clients as required.
Collaboration:
- Work with engineers, project managers, or other technicians to support large-scale lighting projects, such as commercial retrofits or new construction, ensuring alignment with project timelines and budgets.

- An electrician apprenticeship or certification (e.g., Journeyman Electrician) is a plus.
Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in lighting installation, electrical repair, or a related trade.
- Familiarity with LED systems, dimming controls (e.g., 0-10V), and energy management solutions is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with electrical tools (e.g., multimeters, wire strippers, voltage testers) and lighting-specific equipment.
- Knowledge of wiring diagrams, blueprints, and lighting control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex lighting circuits and drivers.
Certifications:
- Valid electrician’s license or certification (e.g., NICET, ETL) and OSHA safety training recommended. Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Osram, Philips) may enhance candidacy.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at heights (e.g., using ladders or lifts), lift up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks in various weather conditions or confined spaces.
