Position Description:

  • We are seeking an AWS Cloud Network Engineer to join our CGI team!
  • This is a full-time career opportunity to work on a highly visible transformation (Infrastructure services) projects for one of our long-standing government clients!
  • This role applies deep technical expertise to the design, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of AWS services.
  • This position can be located remotely anywhere in the US; however, the preferred locations are one of our Onshore Delivery Centers: Troy, AL; Lafayette, LA; Wausau, WI; Knoxville, TN; Mobile, AL; Belton, TX; or Lebanon, VA. This role is to be completed in a hybrid capacity.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

How you'll make an impact:

  • Responsible for all aspects of network engineering, design, and implementation of AWS cloud solutions
  • Responsible for administration of the following AWS technologies: VPC, Subnets, Route Tables, Internet Gateway, NAT Gateway, Security Groups, Network ACLs, Elastic Load Balancing, AWS Direct Connect, AWS Transit Gateway, AWS PrivateLink, AWS Client VPN
  • Integrate on-premises networks with AWS using VPNs, AWS Direct Connect, and other hybrid connectivity solutions
  • Implement and manage AWS network security measures, including Security Groups, Network ACLs, AWS WAF, and AWS Shield
  • Develops and maintains detailed network diagrams and support procedures
  • Responsible for monitoring network availability and capacity utilization to meet committed availability and quality of service objectives. Provides input into the enterprise capacity planning process
  • Supports proofs-of-concept design and testing activities and supports the development of change requests, white papers, and proposals with network service components
  • Troubleshoots and resolves network issues across development, testing, and production cloud environments
  • Works with Infrastructure Engineers and Architects on issues related to cloud infrastructure design and architecture, and assists with proof-of-concept testing
  • Works with peers within and beyond the Cloud Operations team to define and characterize complex technology or process problems and develop & implement new solutions. As needed, assists with the development of Operations white papers, proposals, and other documentation.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

What you'll bring:

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner and AWS SysOps Administrator Certifications
  • 2-3 years of experience administering network infrastructure and AWS networking and content delivery services in a large multi-vendor environment
  • 2 years of experience in the automation of network administration, monitoring, and reporting activities
  • 2 years of experience developing and documenting network designs, as well as operational processes and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of Layer 1 thru Layer 4 OSI model
  • Experience troubleshooting issues including VPC, Transit Gateway, firewall, load balancer, TCP/IP, MPLS, QoS, and routing protocol troubleshooting
  • Advanced knowledge and experience managing firewalls
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in driving technical problems to resolution
  • Ability to work across organizations (CGI, Client, State Data Center, Vendors) to drive issues to resolution
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of UNIX/Linux server technologies
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • General understanding of Layer 5 thru 7 OSI model
  • Experience planning technical implementations of networking services (e.g. developing work breakdown schedules, estimating task efforts and durations)


Desired Qualifications and Non-essential Skills:

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to less technical staff (e.g. CGI management and client staff)
  • Strong understanding of broader technology context (e.g. cloud services, server, and storage technologies)
  • Ability to mentor other team members in areas of technical expertise
  • Experience working in an outsourced/managed services environment with some client-facing responsibilities (e.g. technical discussions with the client)
