Job Description:

  • Successful candidate will report to the Fall River, MA office.
  • L3Harris is seeking a Software Engineering Manager that can grow a team of software engineers while advancing their own career in a management role.
  • This leader and motivator interact with software engineers in planning, designing, and testing of complex systems.
  • At L3Harris we develop sonar systems.
  • Our software engineering team is responsible for software requirement development, software test and integration, application and embedded code withC/C++, Windows/ Linux based development for automous maritime vehicles.
  • Assist with managing and directing the day to day activities of the Software Engineering Group, make individual work assignments, monitor individual performance and provide technical direction to individuals in the Group and to program teams.
  • Perform difficult work on highly technical or involved projects.
  • Review and approve formal documentation for release.
  • Estimate labor, capacity, tools, equipment and other resources to operate and adhere to budget and schedule commitments.


Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to individually contribute to software requirements development, software test and integration, and developing application and embedded code using C/ C++ on diverse target OS on prorietary hardware systems.
  • Manage Software Engineering staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, planning and training employees
  • Coach, counseling, monitor, and appraise staff performance; build high performing software engineering team
  • Manage and directing the day to day activities of the Software Engineering Group and make individual work assignments.
  • Create and present proposals and review cost estimates/proposal packages
  • Present proposals and program execution to internal executives, program managers as well as cutomers
  • Manage resources to meet program needs through allocation of available personnel or hiring new personnel
  • Manage engineering contracts and overhead budgets monthly and identify hiring needs to staff the programs effectively
  • Contribute to development of new and innovative technologies and processes, including idea submission for internal research and development (IRAD) investments and execution of funded IRAD and Internal Order projects
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of strategic plans and technology development roadmaps for Mission Systems
  • Define capital, tools, equipment and other resources required by the Software Eng. Group
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to management and customers
  • Ensure quality through group adherence to the Quality Systems Manual and Standard Work Instructions and other internally or contractually invoked standards.
  • Expert with EVMS / CAM Duties (Software Engineering Software Metrics)
  • Experience with Software Project Tracking using Earned Value Methodologies. 
  • A strong background in software development.
  • Candidate must have a proven record of successfully leading large project planning and development activities.
  • Ability to obtain a US DoD. Secret Clearance


Qualifications:

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Education Required:  Bachelor of Science – Software Engineering or Computer Science; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum Experience Required:  6+ years Software Engineering related experience/4 with Grad Degree
  • Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area. Typically has comprehensive knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline and may have broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
  • Successful candidates must meet eligibility requirements to access US classified information
  • On-site position, ability to travel 20%
  • Must be a US Citizen


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active US DoD Secret Clearance
  • DoD software development experience
  • Experience with Agile Development
