Job Description
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for coordinating and planning maintenance activities to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment and systems in accordance with company operational, safety, environmental, and quality standards. The Maintenance Planner is expected to follow all applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and safe work practices while supporting maintenance execution, operational reliability, cost control, and continuous improvement initiatives. Employees may also be required to perform additional duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned to support safe and efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Follow and adhere to all site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and company operational standards to maintain a safe and compliant work environment
- Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly and ensure it is maintained and in good condition.
- Attend and actively participate in both pre-shift and weekly safety meetings
- Ensure all assigned training and required certifications are maintained and up to date
- Identify and immediately report safety hazards, near-miss events, environmental concerns, and unsafe conditions to supervision.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance procedures and safe work practices are identified and incorporated into maintenance plans.
- Review corrective maintenance work order requests with supervision and approve or reject as appropriate.
- Ensure job scope and maintenance requirements are clearly defined and order required parts and materials when necessary.
- Schedule corrective maintenance activities based on operational priorities and maintenance backlog.
- Monitor work order progress and ensure all work orders are properly completed and closed in the CMMS.
- Program preventive maintenance activities in the CMMS and ensure required parts are linked to the BOM and generated correctly.
- Organize, plan, and develop preventive maintenance schedules.
- Communicate maintenance schedules and planned work activities with all affected departments.
- Follow-up on preventive maintenance work orders to ensure completion and proper closeout.
- Participate in departmental fill-in and coverage planning to support operational and maintenance continuity.
- Monitor unplanned corrective maintenance work orders and ensure all work is completed, documented, and closed properly.
- Ensure modification and improvement work requirements are properly defined and supported with required parts and materials.
- Schedule modification and improvement work according to maintenance priorities and backlog requirements.
- Follow up on work orders to ensure proper completion and closeout.
- Assist with the Management of Change (MOC) process as required.
- Monitor departmental budget activities and identify areas requiring attention or improvement.
- Support budget compliance by applying cost-conscious practices in daily work activities.
- Communicate observed budget concerns or improvement opportunities to Operations and Maintenance leadership
- Monitor departmental cost control activities and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost management.
- Support compliance with departmental cost control objectives in daily activities.
- Communicate cost concerns and improvement opportunities to Operations and Maintenance leadership as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with all departments.
- Develop and maintain KPI reporting formats as required.
- Apply and monitor KPI requirements relevant to the position.
- Review KPI data and follow up on departmental KPI performance and compliance.
- Plan and coordinate major annual planned outages to support safe and efficient operations.
