Job Description

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, testing, modifying, installing, and commissioning electrical, electronic, instrumentation, control, and electromechanical equipment and systems throughout the facility to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant in accordance with company operational, safety, environmental, and quality standards. The Maintenance Electrician is expected to follow all applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and safe work practices while supporting equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, operational continuity, and continuous improvement initiatives. Employees may also be required to perform additional duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned to support safe and efficient plant operations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Follow and adhere to all site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and company operational standards to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly and ensure it is maintained and in good condition.
  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and other company-sponsored programs related to maintenance, environmental compliance, health, and safety.
  • Ensure all assigned training, qualifications, certifications, and testing requirements are maintained and current, including electrical safety, Process Safety Management (PSM), Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) requirements, and other applicable regulatory and company standards.
  • Identify, report, and take appropriate action to eliminate or mitigate safety hazards, environmental concerns, near-miss events, and unsafe conditions, including exercising Stop Work Authority when necessary.
  • Follow all plant emergency response procedures, including emergency shutdowns, interlocks, electrical isolation procedures, and loss of power or utilities.
  • Communicate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, vendors, and other departments using verbal communication, radio, email, and telephone systems as required.
  • Develop and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships that promote teamwork and operational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in safety, reliability, electrical maintenance practices, instrumentation performance, and overall plant performance.
  • Follow established equipment startup, shutdown, maintenance, and operating procedures.
  • Complete assigned work activities and follow through on commitments to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas, shops, equipment, electrical rooms, and plant facilities.
  • Monitor and operate electrical and maintenance-related computerized systems, control panels, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and equipment interfaces as required.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, automation, process control, and equipment-related issues and implement appropriate corrective actions within the scope of responsibility.
  • Perform general housekeeping and plant cleanup activities as necessary to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Provide on-call support as required to assist with maintenance, electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, and equipment reliability needs.
  • Utilize and maintain accurate records within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Complete assigned maintenance work orders and ensure work documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and reliability-based maintenance activities on electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems in accordance with established maintenance programs and schedules.
  • Repair, replace, adjust, calibrate, test, and maintain plant electrical equipment, instrumentation, control systems, and associated components on both scheduled and emergency bases.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems ranging from individual components to complex automated processing and control networks.
  • Perform calibration, testing, installation, modification, commissioning, and operational checkout of electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and electromechanical devices and systems.
  • Maintain and support process and utility instrumentation and controls, including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, computer-based, and programmable control systems.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), variable frequency drives (VFDs), analyzers, scales, recorders, sensors, transmitters, computers, and related control equipment.
  • Assist with diagnosing and resolving maintenance-related equipment failures, electrical issues, instrumentation malfunctions, and operational problems.
  • Support equipment installations, plant modifications, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Interface with Engineering, Operations, contractors, and external vendors regarding equipment repairs, troubleshooting, calibration requirements, instrumentation standards, and replacement part specifications.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in designated areas throughout the facility while maintaining compliance with all safety and operational requirements.
  • Support plant reliability objectives by identifying opportunities for equipment improvements, maintenance optimization, control system enhancements, and reliability improvements.
  • Perform all duties in a manner consistent with company environmental, health, safety, quality, and operational objectives.
  • Perform additional duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned by supervision to support safe and efficient plant operations.
