Job Description

The  Control Room Operator-II supports plant operations by assisting in the safe, stable, and efficient use of control systems, including the Distributed Control System (DCS/HMI). Working under the guidance of the Control Room Operator and Shift Supervisor, this role helps maintain process conditions within defined limits, supports production goals, and coordinates with field operators and maintenance personnel.  The position requires continuous learning, active monitoring, adherence to safety and environmental standards, and accurate documentation of operational activities. Employees are not limited to the following responsibilities and may be assigned additional duties as required:

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Follow and adhere to all site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and company operational standards to maintain a safe and compliant work environment 
• Assist in operating and monitoring plant systems using DCS/HMI interfaces under the direction of the Control Room Operator and/or Shift Supervisor.  Provide relief for Control Room Operator during scheduled breaks and meals. 
• Support continuous monitoring of process trends, alarms, production rates, equipment status, and utility systems, reporting abnormal conditions promptly 
• Help maintain process variables within established operating limits to support product quality, safety, and production efficiency 
• Assist in monitoring and responding to alarms, ensuring timely notification and prioritizing based on operational impact 
• Communicate effectively with field operators to support process adjustments, equipment checks, and troubleshooting activities 
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Control Room Operator, field personnel, and supervision regarding plant conditions 
• Participate in emergency response actions in accordance with established procedures and under direction 
• Support shift handovers and safety meetings by providing accurate updates on assigned tasks and observed plant conditions 
• Assist in coordinating production activities by monitoring tank levels, inventories, and process indicators 
• Support maintenance activities by verifying isolation status, and assisting with startup and return-to-service activities 
• Assist in monitoring product quality trends and coordinate sampling activities as directed 
• Assist with maintaining accurate and timely control room logs, including plant status, operational observations, and assigned tasks 
• Document abnormal events and assist in preparing shift reports and turnover notes 
• Follow approved operating procedures and actively participate in continuous improvement efforts 
• Engage in training and development opportunities, including simulator training and on-the-job learning 
• Maintain awareness of plant conditions that may impact personnel safety, including contractors and visitors
