Position Overview:

  • A Communications Service Technician — also called a cable technician/installer — designs, installs, operates, maintains and repairs telecommunication networks for high-speed internet, television and telephone services.
  • This job utilizes various types of cables and technologies used to transfer data, both fiber optic and copper cables.
  • Technicians install and troubleshoot components of the network from main fiber optic cables outdoors on poles or conduits to on premise wiring consisting of fiber optics, coax and CAT5/CAT6, including the placing, termination and testing of such facilities.
  • Technicians install, troubleshoot and educate customers on various networking and communication equipment placed within the network for delivery of services.
  • Technicians are the front line contact with the public and customers for delivery of reliable telecommunication services to our communities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot lines and networking equipment
  • Install telecommunication cables, including in trenches and difficult-to-reach places
  • Inspect and repair fiber optic cables and other types of cables
  • Create networking plans, including layout, installation and testing
  • Check signal strength across all elements of the network


Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Job requires a high school diploma or equivalent and previous experience and/or certifications preferred. 


Additional Qualifications or Considerations:

  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
  • Valid license and must be 21 years old to drive company vehicles
  • Good with hand tools, troubleshooting and resolving challenges
  • Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Motivated to learn technology and show interest in job
  • Adept at creating plans or layouts and executing them
  • Not bothered by heights or confined spaces
  • Physical ability to perform job including use of ladders
  • Safety-conscious, especially around high-voltage lines
  • Good communication skills to work with the public, customers and team members
