Overview
- The Gift Shop Manager is the lead staff member to oversee the gift shop and welcome center for Vermilionville.
- They are responsible for greeting each guest that enters the store, assisting customers as needed with their selections and purchases, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcome shopping space.
- They are also responsible for the selection and ordering of merchandise for sale, as well as interfacing with local artists whose work we feature in our shop.
- They will need to be polite, friendly, and enthusiastic about customer experience and the success of the gift shop.
- This position also oversees the check-in and admissions for all guests to the park.
Duties
- Open the gift shop and check-in desk every morning, including counting advance bags, setting up the registers, organizing merchandise, and surface-level straightening.
- Select music for the lobby and restaurant.
- Check the schedule for incoming tours and expected visitors.
- Identify any technical or safety concerns to the Managing Director
- Welcome all guests to Vermilionville and thank them for their visit.
- Handle all customer service matters promptly; notify supervisor or manager immediately.
- Answer the telephone promptly, politely, and professionally.
- Research and determine merchandise which will generate sales and positive revenue.
- Analyze results to project and adjust sales moving forward.
- Coordinate with vendors, artists, and organizations that source that merchandise.
- Assist with merchandising new product for maximum sales.
- Research merchandise as needed to refresh existing displays.
- Input new merchandise into the POS system, determine prices, and tag merchandise.
- Help prepare and analyze annual inventory reports.
- Submit reports to the Managing Director as needed.
- Be committed to work towards the success of the Gift Shop as a key part of the museum experience.
Salary Range: STARTING SALARY: $35,000 - $39,000
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field is highly preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
- Ability to develop, adhere to and maintain a departmental budget.
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
- Basic working knowledge of museum industry and best practices/ standards
- Familiarity with the Square purchasing system is highly preferred.
- Experience with applications such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as design applications such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- French speaking is highly preferred.
