Responsible for electrical, communications, and control equipment for unmanned and autonomous marine systems.

Typical duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Documenting Electrical system setup and configuration
  • Provide technical writing documentation for electrical and unmanned systems
  • Write documentation including user manuals, engineering procedures, technical studies, and analyses based on information from engineers and program managers.
  • Source, assemble, and test protypes and new designs
  • Troubleshoot for root cause analysis
  • Assist / be responsible for generating detailed 2D drawings and schematics
  • Conduct research into the feasibility, operation, and performance of electrical systems
  • Participate in factory and customer acceptance trials including sea trials
  • Work closely with both engineering and software teams
  • Provide support to electrical and mechanical production staff
  • Control system commissioning, testing and troubleshooting (in factory and at sea)
  • Working knowledge of marine electrical standards


Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship required. Candidates must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
  • OR 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree AND a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience
  • OR Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0-2 years of prior related experience
  • Strong technical writing skills with an ability to translate engineering inputs into technical reports and documents
  • Proficient in drafting using AutoCAD or similar
  • High attention to detail and quality
  • Must be able to manage own time and deliver to tight deadlines, following strict project plans
  • Ability to fault find, test, and resolve electrical system issues
  • Ability to constructively express opinion and clearly interchange ideas and solutions with colleagues
  • Well presented, motivated, practical and willing to go to sea for short durations as needed for test and commissioning.
  • Able to work flexible hours and to travel when required. (up to 5-10% travel to vessels at port, customer, and/or shipyards may be required)

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of Ethernet networking, serial and CAN bus networks
  • Knowledge of marine engine wiring
  • Working knowledge of marine electrical standards
  • Knowledge of electric motors, linear actuators and motor controllers
  • Knowledge of good EMI/EMC management practices
  • Experience in PLC programming
  • Experience of micro controller development
  • Project management/technical lead experience
  • A keen interest in robotics and unmanned vehicles
  • Marine experience in vessel systems design and/or operations
  • Experience in defense, oil and gas or ocean science industries
  • Familiarity with standards such as ABS, ABYC, SOLAS, Coast Guard, Navy, MIL spec, and other marine standards
  • Some experience with Solidworks, Solidworks PDM Vault, or similar
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to work across functions including wiring control panels, control boxes, outfitting boats, pulling and terminating cable, mechanical assembly
  • PCB design with Altium and other electrical design tools preferred
