Diamond QA Manager - Apprentice Buyer

The Diamond Buyer Apprentice/QA Team Manager will have two main objectives.  One is to direct the operations of the large diamond and small diamond quality assurance teams in order to provide an excellent customer experience in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.  The other is to assist in diamond buying operations to develop his or her own procurement talent, in order to achieve continued growth and financial profitability of our diamond product line. The position will be responsible for the quality and quantity of work from the diamond QA team. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • The ability to satisfactorily adhere to company attendance policies. 
  • Supervises the operations of diamond inspection, grading, and sorting, including equipment, materials, and work processes 
  • Hiring, firing, staffing, and coaching of direct reports 
  • Oversees the implementation of work schedules, personnel requirements, training and performance standards 
  • Performs administrative duties such as attendance management, payroll reporting, and performance evaluations 
  • Conducts and monitors performance evaluations for all personnel in Diamond QA 
  • Develops and establishes robust Standard Operating Procedures and norms for quality inspection of different assortments. 
  • Assists in the selecting, ordering, and purchasing of loose diamonds, both domestically and internationally 
  • Joins the Diamond Buying Director on a minimum of one international buying trips per year 
  • Assists the Diamond Buying Director in maintaining mutually beneficial vendor relationships via correspondence, phone calls, and visits 
  • Works in collaboration with Supply Chain Operations and Merchandising teams to establish quality controls and maintain diamond inspection consistencies 
  • Recommends and implements measures to improve customer satisfaction, sales volume, and quality of product 
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems 
  • Responsible for the proper training of new associates and new tasks 
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains constructive, collaborative relationships within department and across the corporate organization

Work Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm


Qualifications:

Skills:  

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and abroad 
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills 
  • Great interpersonal and customer service skills 

Experience:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • GIA Diamonds Graduate or equivalent experience 
  • 5+ years sorting and grading experience with diamond melee preferred
