About the Job:

  • L3Harris is seeking an Associate Manager in Field Engineering as it continues to develop and establish a foothold in the rapidly growing market space for Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASV). The role will be based onsite at our location in Broussard, LA.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a growing Field Engineering department
  • Responsible for commissioning, testing, operation, and maintenance of marine Autonomous Surface Vehicles (both on and off the water) of the mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Must coordinate and communicate effectively with Software and Engineering teams to assist in commissioning and testing of various vehicles produced and any operation of the vehicles in the field/offshore.
  • Supporting the ongoing operation and maintenance of the vehicles both on site as well as those deployed at customer locations including investigation and diagnosis of any technical issues the vehicle and its control system may experience
  • Liaising directly with customers and their representatives throughout installation, commissioning, testing, and operation of USV assets
  • Working closely alongside members of the ASV Operations team and the wider ASV team to ensure the continued efficient operation and refinement of our products by working with our clients to capture feedback and change requests etc.
  • Interfacing between the ASV Operations team and Software/Engineering teams to aid in effective communication and provide incorporate feedback from the various groups.
  • Handle scheduling and allocation of Field Engineering personnel to support successful execution on various programs
  • Assist Engineering Manager in determining staffing needs and in the recruitment of additional Field Engineers as needed
  • Assist with bid and proposal development and provide Basis of Estimate information for Field Engineering work required to support potential programs


Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years prior relevant experience, or Graduate degree and 4 years prior relevant experience. Experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable.
  • Experience in the maritime industry and a strong understanding of vessel systems
  • Works well leading a small team and coordinating efforts with other departments
  • Ability to utilize electronic troubleshooting instruments effectively
  • Excellent electrical knowledge including the ability to understand electrical diagrams, understanding of various components such as relays, switches, actuators, solenoids, electric motors, motor controllers, chargers, batteries, inverters, etc.
  • Have a strong mechanical aptitude, can effectively use basic hand tools for maintenance, fabrication, and/or modification of components or aluminum structures
  • The ability to quickly locate the cause of a problem from a set of symptoms and the ability to either resolve locally or liaise effectively other functional teams to ensure such problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently
  • Strong organizational abilities, oral & written communications, and interpersonal skills
  • To be self-directed, organized, systematic, punctual, and goal oriented
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be a U.S. Person as per 22 CFR 120.15 in order to satisfy export compliance requirements
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment. Including but not limited to: Work at heights, climb up and down stairs or ladders, lift and carry up to 50lbs. occasionally
  • Willing to travel up to 25% and comfortable working aboard vessels in an offshore environment


Preferred Additional Skills/Experience:

  • Experience operating and performing maintenance on marine vessel systems (Electronics, engines, generators, fuel systems, etc.)
  • Experience in the set up and fault finding of complex marine electrical systems and sensors including experience with NMEA2000 and NMEA0183 protocols.
  • Experience working in the offshore environment
  • Experience with cranes, forklifts, and associated lifting and rigging procedures
  • Experience in boat/ship production and working with production equipment (welding machines, router table, press break, drill press, etc.)
  • Experience in scheduling and properly allocating resources to support program schedules
  • Experience with electronic troubleshooting tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Active Secret security clearance verifiable in JPAS or the ability to obtain an interim Secret clearance within 90 days.
  • Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports
  • Experience Solidworks, Autocad, or other comparable 2D and 3D CAD programs
  • Experience working with Solidworks PDM or comparable Product Data Management (PDM) software
