Application Engineer (WebFocus Admin)


Candidate will work on deployment of software releases and generate SQL scripts to support issue analysis and resolutions, and support application configuration changes during scheduled maintenance outage windows, when necessary. In additional, propose changes to process and system architecture to improve efficiency and reduce risk of application outages.

Tasks: Deploy releases; application administration; instance set up, monitoring, O&M, issue resolution; patching; ticket analysis and support; end user support; system performance monitoring, shell scripting, DevOps, security analysis

Functional Responsibilities: Collaborates closely with the client staff, functional team, and development team to translate client issues and concerns into workable solutions.

Knowledge & Skills: Experience/familiarity with Unix (Linux) and shell scripting, java application servers, C++ applications, Oracle databases, application installation and configuration using Linux or Windows, SQL and database concepts.


Bachelors degree and Five (5) years technical development/design experience in complex systems administration. Experience supporting applications by reviewing logs to identify root causes of issues, develops scripts to automate tasks. Additionally, supporting production Operations and Maintenance of a large-scale application including scheduling and execution of periodic and ad hoc software jobs as required by end users. Additional experience should include:

  • Experience as a Linux System Administrator

  • Experience with Derby databases – manage, maintain and optimize

  • Unix command language

  • SSL Certifications

  • Experience decommissioning of old applications

• Desired: Desired: ITIL Foundations, WebFocus, Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Tuxedo, SoftwareAG webMethods or similar Integration platform.

  • Ability to learn the administration of the Business Intelligence tool to include regular software upgrades, issue resolution, and configuring access to required databases. Training to be provided.
