Position: Residential Manager

Acadiana Brain Injury Center (ABIC) has been in business for more than 25 years.  ABIC offers long term residential, short and outpatient day neuro programs for adults with acquired brain injuries.  The Residential Rehabilitation Manager directs and coordinates activities of personnel in the Residential Rehabilitation Program to carry out its objectives in the provision of rehabilitative care. This position is full-time, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.


1.       Directs and coordinates all Residential operation and Residential programming.

a.       Supervises residential staff.

b.       Performs pre-employment interviews, hires new staff.

c.       Coordinates staff meetings to orient new employees, inform staff of changes in policies and procedures and work on resolution of conflicts concerning such items as utilization of ABIC facilities and programming and staffing.

d.       Reviews performance evaluations and conducts performance evaluations for designated employees in a timely manner. Requires effective communication skills and decision making capability to manage staff.

e.       Organizes the functions of the program through appropriate delegation of duties. Establishes formal means of accountability from those to who he/she has assigned duties. Ensures staff is fulfilling their job duties competently and efficiently.

f.        Responsible for all employee discipline issues within the Residential program. Manages by walking around.

g.       Reviews all injury/incident reports.

2.       Prepares schedule indicating days employees are scheduled to report to work for a designated shift with patient assignments. Requires organizational skills as well as numerical and visual acuity to coordinate personnel with staffing needs.

3.       Coordinates patient assignments for those employees scheduled to work according to patient program needs and employees' abilities and training. Requires visual ability to read scheduling requests and memos regarding patient assignments.

4.       Adjusts schedules to meet needed changes caused by a leave of absence, military duty, patient hospitalization, patient medical appointment, patient home visit, and patient transportation for admission and/or discharge. Requires visual acuity and ability to read memos and requests for time off.

5.       Directs personnel administration and assures that policies and procedures are upheld in a fair and consistent manner. Maintains residential policies and procedures and recommends policy changes when needed.  Requires ability to effectively communicate content and interpretation of policies to employees, patients, and patients’ families.

6.       Prepares weekly staffing requirement reports.

7.       Assures that communication between the clinic and residential setting is upheld in a manner to promote quality operations that work for the good of the patients.

8.       Reviews and remains current on all patient programs. Requires ability to read, understand and apply patient programs.

9.       Organizes staff training in-services regarding patient care issues.

10.   Coordinates patient admissions and discharges with Director.  Organizational ability needed to plan and control required activities and personnel. Requires use of telephone, memo writing, and in-person meetings.

11.   Inspects homes and reports any required repairs and cleaning to maintenance.  Requests furnishing and home inventory purchases as needed.

12.   Assures that licensing requirements are met. Ability to read and comprehend regulations and ability to communicate are required.

13.   Develops positive climate of cooperation, customer service and professionalism.

14.   Provides for the safety of patients, visitors, staff and self when interacting with patients. 

a.       Must be able to recognize patient escalation, via verbal, physical and visual cues.

b.       Must be able to attempt to verbally and physically de-escalate patient using behavior management techniques according to each patient's program.

15.   Maintains professional and ethical relationships with staff, patients, patient families, and other visitors.

16.   Attends staff meetings, in-services, and all scheduled shifts.

17.   Maintains work pace appropriate to given work load:

a.       Perform activities on schedule, maintain regular attendance, and be punctual within specified tolerance

b.       Complete normal workday and/or week, perform at a consistent pace.

18.   Relates to other people beyond giving and receiving Instructions:

a.       Can get along with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes

b.       Maintain policy to encourage active, empathetic listening

c.       Perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others

d.       Respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor and/or other staff member(s)

19.   Effectively influences people on a consistent basis:

a.       Convince or redirect others

b.       Understand the meaning of words and use them effectively

c.       Interact appropriately with people which includes the provision of appropriate internal and external customer service

20.   Makes generalizations, evaluations or decisions without immediate supervision:

a.       Recognize potential hazards and observe appropriate precautions

b.       Understand and remember detailed instructions

c.     Make independent decisions or judgments based on sensory data or known guidelines

21.   Accepts and carries out responsibility for direction, control and planning:

a.       Set realistic goals or make plans independently of others

b.       Negotiate, instruct or supervise people

c.       Respond appropriately to changes in the work setting

22.   May be required to transport patient to appointments and outings in company vehicle.

1. Working knowledge of rehabilitative care is preferred.  One year work experience in a residential care facility is required.

2. Knowledge of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision needed by patients, including the ability to communicate with patients.

3. Ability to direct the work of others.

4. Maintain CPR, First Aid

5. Must be able to pass background check and drug screen. 

6. Must have clean driving record.

23.   Perform other duties as assigned.
