Fall Elections Rescheduled: The fall 2021 elections have been rescheduled in light of Hurricane Ida impacts. The October 9 election will move to November 13 and the November 13 election will move to December 11.


Recovery Resources

Office/Commercial Space Availability: LEDA works with economic development agencies and real estate contacts along the Gulf Coast to respond quickly to emergency crews or businesses that may be temporarily displaced during hurricane season. State of Louisiana Damage Assessment: Fill out this survey to report damage to your home in the aftermath of a significant weather event or disaster (residential structures only, no vehicles). Information collected here will help the parish, state, and federal authorities better understand the location and severity of damage impacts.

Hospitality Hub: Hospitality Hub is a coordinated effort between Lafayette Consolidated Government, Lafayette Travel, LEDA, One Acadiana, and Downtown Lafayette to provide resources to those affected by disasters as they  navigate Lafayette and the surrounding areas. The hub features up-to-date hotel availability, health and relief resources for those sheltering, as well as places to eat and things to do while in Lafayette. Businesses interested in participating in the hospitality hub by offering a discount to those displaced by disaster, should email for more information.

Hurricane Ida Sheltering Program: Through the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana is opening the Hurricane Ida Sheltering Program, which will provide temporary housing to people in heavily impacted parishes where other sheltering options are currently unavailable.

School Enrollment for Displaced Students: Beginning Tuesday, September 7, all displaced families wishing to enroll in Lafayette Parish Schools should report to the Vermilion Conference Center located at 326 Gauthier Road in Lafayette, LA between the hours of 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday - Friday (excluding district holidays) for assistance with registration. Upon arrival at VCC please check in with the receptionist and then visit the large conference room.

Operation Blue Roof: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin Operation Blue Roof for homeowners in areas impacted by Hurricane Ida to cover their damaged roofs until permanent repairs are made. Small Business Administration Federal Disaster Loans: Low-interest federal disaster loans are now available to Louisiana businesses and residents. The declaration covers Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana parishes as a result of Hurricane Ida that began on Aug. 26, 2021.

Transitional Sheltering Assistance Program: Louisianans in 25 designated parishes are now eligible for FEMA's Transitional Sheltering Assistance program. You must apply for disaster assistance first at disasterassistance.gov. Visit femaevachotels.com or call 800-621-3362 for more information.

Unemployment Benefits: Disaster Unemployment Assistance is now available for 25 designated parishes. The deadline to apply is November 2. Businesses and residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Ida can apply online. DUA FAQs

Replacement SNAP Benefits: Recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in 18 Louisiana parishes impacted by Hurricane Ida will receive automatic 55% replacement benefits due to power outages affecting at least half of their residents, following a waiver approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).

DSNAP: The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) received federal approval to begin virtual Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) operations in 25 parishes severely affected by Hurricane Ida. SNAP, P-EBT Benefits Waiver Issued for Hot Foods.

Emergency Prescription Assistance Program: The federal government's Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP) helps people in a federally-identified disaster area who do not have health insurance get the prescription drugs, vaccinations, medical supplies, and equipment that they need.

IRS Tax Relief: Victims of Hurricane Ida have until January 3, 2022, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.

Sandbags in Lafayette Parish (updated 9/28/21)

Sandbag sites are open throughout the parish. All locations are self-bagging, and residents must bring their own shovel and manpower. Sites are open around the clock, but residents are encouraged to get sandbags during daylight hours.
