CGI Group to become anchor tenant at ULL Research Park, bring 400 jobs

Montreal, Canada-based CGI Group Inc. is set to become the anchor tenant of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Research Park-bringing with it an estimated 400 direct new jobs over the next four years. Officials of the IT consulting business made the announcement alongside Gov. Bobby Jindal at a press conference on campus this afternoon. CGI selected ULL as the site of its new technology center after a two-year national search, state officials say. To secure the project, the state is providing the company with an incentive package that includes, among other things, a performance-based grant of $5.3 million to reimburse personnel relocation, recruitment, training and building operating costs. Local incentives will also include a grant not to exceed $1.1 million from the Lafayette Economic Development Authority. ULL, meanwhile, is providing CGI a 10-year land lease that will include a $600,000 in-kind contribution by the university for the first five years of the project, matched by a $400,000 performance-based state grant to the company over years six through 10 of the lease. CGI will lease space for its center in a new 50,000-square-foot, $13.1 million building that is being funded by the state. Construction will begin this year and will be completed by the end of 2015, state officials say. Founded in 1976, CGI has its U.S. headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. The company employs more than 68,000 people across 40 nations worldwide, and counts major government agencies and corporations among its clients. In its 2013 fiscal year, CGI recorded revenue of approximately $10 billion. Read Daily Report PM for more details. -Staff report
